Daily Ceremonies

Numbers of events are performed in the
Astana of Hazrat Khwaja Gharib Nawaz (R.A.) in highly traditional way.

Opening Ceremony:  This ceremony is performed in the morning at 04:00 a.m in winter and 05:00 am in summer. At this time, the main entrance of the Darbar is opened, by calling Azan. At this point only Khadims are allowed to enter to perform khizmat sharif.

Cleansing Ceremony: This ceremony is performed at 03:00 pm on Friday to Wednesday and 02:30 pm on Thursday. At this point only Khadims are allowed to enter to perform khizmat sharif.

Lighting Ceremony: Twenty minutes before Magrib Namaz the ritual of Roshnee (lighting) takes place. It starts with khudam bringing candles inside the Darbar Sarif with drums beating in the background. Once inside, khadims place these candles in lamps and recite some Persian verse. Finally the lamps are placed in the four corners of the Darbar Sarif and are lighted.

Closing Ceremony: Kadka is the closing ceremony of the Darbar Sarif which takes place after an hour of Isha Namaz. According to old custom, about 20 minutes before closing the door, when fifth part of the night passes. Qawwals sing a special song called 'Kadka'. After the song is over, the entrance of the Darbar Sarif is closed.
